Approximately 285 km from Mary River

Arctic Bay is located in the northwest corner of Baffin Island protected by hills on three sides that provide refuge and habitat to a number of bird species.

Home to a traditional community, Arctic Bay receives many tourists by way of cruise ship during the summer months who come to sample the local experiences of the Inuit who live here.

Arctic Bay is also the birthplace of the annual dog sledding race Nunavut Quest which draws the best dog sledding team from across Nunavut.

Meet Arctic Bay’s Baffinland Community Liaison Officer:

Meena Oyukuluk

MeenaMeena Oyukuluk describes Arctic Bay as a “beautiful scenic community known for its mountain called King George”. Her favourite past time during the winter season is climbing by skidoo, and during the summer months she loves to camp.

Meena has worked with Baffinland since April 28, 2014 and is primarily responsible for ensuring that the communication between Baffinland and the people of Arctic Bay is well managed and executed. Wherever possible, Meena also helps out in any way that she can. Her door is always open from 8 am to 5 pm every Monday to Friday.

*Baffinland thanks Clare Kines, Community Economic Development Officer, Hamlet of Arctic Bay, for the use of many of the images of Nunavut Quest and Arctic Bay that are on our website
