The Mary River Project is an important contributor to the prosperity of the northern Qikiqtaaluk (Baffin) region. Consistent with principles of sustainable development, Baffinland is committed to maximizing the social and economic benefits flowing from the Mary River Project to Nunavummiut and the communities of the northern Qikiqtaaluk (Baffin) region and minimizing adverse environmental effects. Important economic benefits for Nunavummiut and the communities include employment and business opportunities, access to education and training programs and Inuit participation in Mary River Project revenues.

Baffinland supports a number of initiatives designed to ensure that Nunavummiut in the northern Qikiqtaaluk (Baffin) region are the primary beneficiaries of the Project, including targeted training and educational initiatives, requirements for Inuit content in contracts, an Inuit procurement and contracting strategy and contributions to a variety of funds to promote community capacity and well-being.
