Baffinland is proud of its achievements as a responsible mining company since operations at the Mary River Project began in 2015. We are most proud of our commitments to minimize impacts on the environment and share benefits of the Project with Inuit.
The Mary River Project is currently permitted to extract and ship up to six million tonnes of iron ore per year. To ensure the economic viability of the mine, Baffinland is seeking approval to expand its operations. The proposed Phase 2 expansion involves constructing a railway from the Mary River mine site to Milne port, adding a second ore dock and increasing the amount of ore delivered to our customers each year.
To support the Company’s Phase 2 expansion plan, the mine will implement additional environmental safeguards and monitoring programs, while significantly increasing the direct economic benefits and opportunities for Inuit that flow from the Project.
