Strong and healthy communities in the North mean better working relationships. Baffinland is committed to ongoing dialogue with the North Baffin communities, and to delivering long-term benefits to these communities, including employment and training opportunities.
Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement
The Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement (IIBA) is an agreement developed in collaboration with the Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) which helps ensure that residents of the Qikiqtani Region are benefitting from the operation. The IIBA mainly focuses on benefits related to the North Baffin communities of Arctic Bay, Clyde River, Hall Beach, Igloolik, and Pond Inlet. To view the full IIBA, click here.
North Baffin Communities
Along with our Northern Affairs office in Iqaluit, we maintain a year-round presence in the five north Baffin communities, led by our Baffinland Community Liaison Officers (BCLOs). Our BCLOs are the first point of contact for community residents looking for employment and training opportunities with Baffinland.
We also visit these communities regularly to update community residents on our operations, new developments, and employment and training opportunities. Our town hall meetings also present an opportunity for residents to provide feedback and ask questions.
