Beyond the Mine: Jamesie Itulu – Graphic Designer
Jamesie Itulu did not follow a straight path to his job as Graphic Designer for the Communications department at Baffinland. He was first hired as a seasonal Shipping Monitor in Pond Inlet, observing vessel activity in the Northern Shipping Route. In his downtime, Jamesie pursued his other passion, art, and when his supervisor saw his drawings, well, you could say the writing was on the wall.
To prepare him for the position of Graphic Designer, Baffinland offered Jamesie online training, which he says helped him greatly. And while he never expected to have a career in mining, he does have a personal interest in rocks, geology and paleontology, and used to be what he calls ‘a seeker and collector’.
Jamesie says he enjoys his job, which allows him to work from his home community, so he can help care for his aging parents. He appreciates the support and inspiration he gets from his team, and from Baffinland. His advice to job seekers? “There are many types of jobs to choose from at Baffinland: cooks, transportation, office management, field research, etc. I’m positive any new employee will eventually find the perfect job for them.”
