Beyond the Mine: George Iqalukjuak - Baffinland Community Liaison Officer (BCLO), Clyde River
George Iqalukjuak is our Baffinland Community Liaison Officer (BCLO) in Clyde River. While he doesn’t often travel to the Mary River Mine site, his role is integral to the success of our operations.
As BCLO, George is the face of the company in the community. He helps organize community tours and upcoming training courses, and advertises training and employment opportunities on his BCLO Facebook page. He also engages with community members, and answers any questions or concerns.
Born and raised in Clyde River, George knew he wanted to make a difference, so he got a job with his local MLA, as a constituency assistant. His passion for the community he calls home then led him to apply for the role of BCLO.
George enjoys sharing his knowledge with potential employees, and says he has a very positive impression of Baffinland, because it provides so many jobs and great opportunities for Nunavummiut. He says he’s very happy that Baffinland is helping Inuit employees advance in their careers, with its new Inuit Leadership Development Program (ILDP). “I’m proud to work for Baffinland,” he says.
